Be inspired ... Finlande Activity & adventure holidays

Gallery of Finlande

Finnish Lapland has enormous areas of untouched wilderness and miles of wild rolling fells that just beg to be explored.

Activities galore

Many of the holiday destinations are set within pristine countryside and whether you choose a more remote location or one close to a ski resort with a chance of excellent downhill or snowboard action, you can be sure a variety of optional excursions will allow you to experience and enjoy this winter playground to the full.

Many places offer cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing and horse riding too and these are great alternatives should you be keen to explore your surrounds. Take an adrenalin-fuelled snowmobile ride through snow-covered forests and across frozen lakes, perhaps in search of the Northern Lights or, considered the ultimate way to explore Finnish Lapland, a wilderness husky safari mushing your own team of eager dogs – just two examples of the many optional activities available.
And at some resorts there may be the opportunity to go swimming either indoors or out for the more adventurous! And after all these activities, what better way to relax than making the most of your private sauna or soaking in an outdoor hot tub under the stars.

Log cabins

The Finnish log cabin comes in many shapes and forms, with the concept reaching far back in history when remote countryside cabins were used by nomadic hunters and fishermen.
Thankfully today, the tradition has moved on and these cabins, still built in a time-honored fashion using native pine, are used by holidaymakers who enjoy the authenticity with modern creature comforts. The cabins come in a variety of designs such as open plan or with separate bedrooms, for anything up to six persons. They have kitchenette and dining facilities, a lounge area and a private sauna.

Relax and unwind the Finnish way

The sauna in Finland is a way of life and they are as common in homes as having your own bathroom. Rejuvenating in a sauna after a day out in the crisp winter air is a habit to which you’ll soon become accustomed, even on a short break. Reclining in temperatures of up to 110°C promotes sweating and induces a true sense of relaxation, especially with subdued lighting and the attractive scent of heated pine to surround you.

Snow rooms, glass igloos and more

Of course it’s not all about log cabins; there are ski apartments, spa hotels and more. For example at Kakslauttanen, 300km above the Arctic Circle, an ice room can be yours for the night, thankfully equipped with thermal sleeping bags and surely the most unusual accommodation of all, glass igloos.
These traditionally shaped igloos sleep two in heated comfort and have private facilities. So snuggle up under the duvet and keep your fingers crossed the northern lights put in an appearance overhead!
